Elon Mush and Vivek Ramaswamy have been identified by US President-Elect Donald Trump as the key whips to lead the Department of Government Efficiency(DOGE) in cleaning up the Federal Bureaucracy.
The identified duo will be responsible for overhauling the federal government, eliminating wasteful spending, and streamlining operations to drive better efficiency in public service.
In a statement, Trump highlighted that the 53-year-old Tesla Boss, Elon Musk and the 39-year-old former Republican presidential candidate, Vivek Ramaswamy would act as outside advisors to the White House. They would offer advice and guidance by partnering with the Office of Management and Budget to “drive large-scale structural reform and create an entrepreneurial approach in the government operations which has never been witnessed before. To quote Trump, the duo “will pave the way for my administration to dismantle Government Bureaucracy, slash excessive regulations and restructure Federal Agencies- Essential to the ‘Save America’ movement”. Elon Musk sees this initiative as something, that would address the United States unsustainable fiscal journey. He pointed out, “Our Defense Budget is pretty gigantic. It’s a trillion dollars. The interest we owe on the debt is higher than the defence budget. This is not sustainable. That is why we need the Department of Government Efficiency(DOGE)”. Ramaswamy, the Indian-American Entrepreneur who withdrew his nomination from the presidential bid earlier this year and backed Trump said – “He will not go gently”. In another post, he tweeted-“Shut It Down”, a slogan he used during his presidential campaign to eliminate federal agencies.

Despite the recent announcement, clarification on the modus operandi of the DOGE is not clear. It would come under the Federal Advisory Committee Act, which dictates how external groups that advise the government should operate and be accountable. President-Elect Trump proposed the creation of a government efficiency commission as part of his reformist agenda.
