Women’s T20 World Cup: Format, Venues and Where to Watch the Matches

The 9th edition of the ICC Women’s T20 Cricket World Cup will kick off on 3rd October 2025, with Bangladesh taking on Scotland in Sharjah today. The tournament initially, planned to be played in Bangladesh, was moved to the UAE in a last-minute decision by the ICC due to the political crisis in the nation.

All matches will be held in October, with the final match scheduled for 20th October. The 9th edition of the T20 cricket World Cup will feature ten teams divided into two groups – Group A and Group B. Previously held editions were dominated by Australia with a record win of six finals out of eight editions. Harmanpreet Kaur will lead Team India for the third straight edition. She will have her sights on a major title win after having missed narrowly in the 2020 and 2017 ODI World Cup when India finished as runners-up.

Format:

Ten teams are divided into two groups – Group A and Group B. Each group comprises of 5 teams. Group A has defending champions Australia, India, New Zealand, Srilanka and Pakistan. Group B on the other hand includes South Africa, the West Indies, England, Bangladesh and Scotland.

Each Team plays the remaining four teams in their group and the top two teams from each progress to the semi-finals. The topper of each group faces the runner-up of the other. The winners of both groups will battle each other in the final clash.  

Venues:

Initially, the tournament was planned to be hosted in the Sher-e-Bangla stadium in Mirpur, Dhaka and Sylhet International Cricket Stadium. However, the tournament has shifted to UAE and the matches will be played at Dubai International Cricket Stadium and Sharjah Cricket Cricket Stadium.

Where to Watch the Matches:

The matches will be broadcast on Star Sports Network in India. The live streaming of the T20 World Cup matches will be available on Disney+Hotstar app and website.
